Printed Circuit Boards and their Various Types

flex pcb, rigid flex pcb, HDI PCB

An express PCB in various electronic gadgets is a standard component. From a variety of materials like fibreglass, laminate and composite they are prepared. According to the use, there is variation in the type of circuit board. Let's know about its different types:

Flexible – It is a versatile circuit board. Apart from being designed with a flexible layer, they are also available in single, double, or multi-layer boards. When it becomes important to save space and weight while building a particular device then they are a great option. Also, for high ductility and low mass, they are appreciated. Because of the flexible nature of the board, it becomes more difficult to use.

Double sided - This is much more like the single-sided, but on both sides has the conductive material. In the High Speed PCB numerous holes make easy attachment of metal parts from the top to the bottom side. Operational flexibility is increased by this type of board and building more dense circuit designs it is a practical option. This board is relatively low in cost.

Multi-layer - The circuit board with multi-layer contains extra conductive materials layers. The high number of layers which can reach 30 or more indicates that it becomes possible to create a circuit design with very high flexibility. By special insulating materials and substrate board, the individual layers are separated. Its compact size is a great advantage of this type of board, which is a relatively small product that helps to save space and weight.

Single sided - This one is the most typical circuit board and is created with a single layer or base material. The single layer gets coated with copper layer, which is a conductive material. On top of the copper layer, they may also have a silk screen coat or a protective solder mask. Low production cost is a great benefit in this type of High Temperature PCB and in mass-produced items they are often used.

Rigid - the rigid circuit board is built with solid, non-flexible material for its layers. Typically they are compact and can even handle complex circuit designs.
